Bonifacio and its beaches: a secretive and wild getaway

The sheer cliffs of Bonifacio and its upper town make for a truly breathtaking spectacle. Discover them on foot or from the sea.

At the southernmost tip of Corsica stands an isolated citadel on a proud promontory: Bonifacio. Situated just a short hop from Sardinia, it exudes undeniable Italian charm, and even has its own dialect derived from Ligurian Italian.

If you’re looking for a combination of interesting historical heritage, quality local cuisine, and opportunities to explore the beaches and coastline, you’ve come to the right place! Perched on a limestone foundation striated by the ravages of wind and sea, the upper town is a fascinating labyrinth, dotted with restaurants showcasing Corsican produce. From the sea, the steep cliffs, honeycombed with ancient water-hewn caves, take on an even more spectacular appearance. Way below, a cove around 100 metres wide forms a natural harbour, home to a bustling port. It’s here that you’ll board one of the excursion boats to reach sublime viewpoints, explore sea caves, and discover the rocky jumble of the Lavezzi Islands.

Other natural splendours await you to the north of the town: from Grand Sperone to Rondinara, a series of white sandy coves with turquoise waters of unspoilt beauty will take your breath away. Here you can just relax, or else partake in windsurfing and other water sports.
