From volcanic summits to the beaches of Kribi, fall under the spell of Cameroon, a little-visited destination in Central Africa that will surprise you for its diversity and authenticity.

A country with extraordinary natural variety

Cameroon is a country of multiple faces and sheer contrasts where mountains, beaches and equatorial rainforests form a beautiful mosaic of natural landscapes. The country’s symbol, Mount Cameroon – an active volcano and the highest peak in West Africa – is a popular attraction for hikers who live for a challenge. Further north, the leafy forests of Korup National Park offer a vast safe haven for rare and endemic species, much to the delight of visitors with a passion for botany and zoology. Discover too the majestic falls at Ekom, close to the city of Nkongsamba and considered the most stunning cascades in the country, and Dja Faunal Reserve whose outstanding biodiversity has put it on the UNESCO World Heritage Site list. If you plan to head to the coast, the beaches in Kribi are perfect for water sports or simply indulging in some R&R.

A rich culture teeming with customs

A natural treasure, Cameroon is also home to a fascinating fusion of cultures, where almost 250 tribes coexist. Graced with views across the Gulf of Guinea, the city of Douala is the economic capital of Cameroon, while Yaoundé, its political capital, will charm you with its eye-catching buildings and cultural institutions, like the Museum of the People of the Forest, a mesmerizing ethnographic centre. Foumban, dubbed the “City of the Arts”, is a go-to destination for those with a passion for culture and architecture: explore the Palace of the Bamoun Kings, constructed in an eclectic style that makes it unique, and the Museum of the Bamoun Kings, opened in 2024. For those who seek total cultural immersion, be sure to indulge in Cameroon’s flavourful cuisine, offering local specialities like ndolé (spinach stew) and poulet DG (chicken- and plantain-based dish) and if you’re over in November, attend the Ngondo, a huge water-centred feast and ritual celebrated by the Sawa (coastal people). A thoroughly one-off experience!
